A graveside service will be held for Bill Buchanan at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at Colfax Cemetery with Pastor Jay Jackson officiating.

Bill Buchanan was born on the family farm near Pearisburg Virginia on December 17, 1932. After completing high school, he enlisted in the Air Force where he served for four years at the rank of Airman first class. During this time, he was stationed in Turkey and Korea where he worked on a team whose goal was weather reconnaissance and served as an instructor in Denver, CO and Cheyenne, WY. After his enlistment ended, he worked for The City of Austin at a water treatment plant. After two years in Austin he worked at Union Carbide in the Linde division until his retirement in 1985 (26 years) which moved he and his family to Houston, Dallas and Garland. Bill married Jill Clifteen Ellett 1957 and together they had three beautiful children; Julie, Tim, and Elaine. He was a member of Colfax United Methodist Church, Colfax Men's Breakfast Club, and a member of the Masonic Lodge.
If you knew Bill even a little you knew about his love for animals (cows in particular), and if you had the opportunity to see him interact with them, you got to see the love they had for him as well. Bill was a loving, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family on the farm. Bill was a connoisseur of fine buffets and Bluebell ice cream and always wanted to share these simple pleasures with everyone he met. He was known for his incredible intelligence, strength, protective nature and kind spirit as well as his wonderful since of humor. Bill will be missed by his family and friends
Mr. Buchanan past in peace at the age of 87 on October 21, 2020 at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wiley Blake Buchanan and Annie Belle Collins Buchanan; brother, Roosevelt Buchanan; and great-grandson, Colton Buchanan.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jill Buchanan of Ben Wheeler; three children and their spouses, Julie & Roger Poncy of Terrell, Timothy & Jamey Buchanan of College Mound, and Elaine & Randy Hooper of Greenville; brother, Wiley "Dub" Buchanan, Jr.; sister, Juanita Peck; grandchildren, Adam Poncy (Kelli), Clint Poncy (Stephanie), Holly Buchanan, Jason Buchanan (Mary Ellen), Taylor Buchanan, Blake Buchanan (Victoria), Abigale Hooper, and Claire Hooper; and great-grandchildren, Lydia, Noelle, Omri, Cady, Micah, John Luke "LJ", Easton, and one on the way.
