David Ray Wideman was born June 29, 1955 in Tyler, Texas. He passed away at the age of 66 on Friday, September 10, 2021 in Tyler. He was a member of Cross Brand Cowboy Church in Tyler. Although he lived in many places growing up, most of his adult life was in the Lindale area.
"Big O' David", as he was known to his friends, was an awesome guitar player, learning to love music from the age of 6 from his parents. Over the years, David played in many bands and has passed on his love of music to his son, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. David became a carpenter by trade, building houses from start to finish. He worked for the City of Tyler, as well as a part-time security officer for Quality Private Patrol until he became disabled in 1999. Growing up, David loved riding horses, fishing, camping, and hunting. He had a passion for old John Deere tractors, guns and motorcycles. He was the happiest when he was surrounded by his family and friends.
David was preceded in death by his father, Ray Wideman (February 1997), and sister, Sherry Wideman Hobbs (May 2021).
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Evelyn Wideman of Lindale; son, David Wayne Wideman and wife, Kathy of Lindale; mother, Mildred Wideman of Lindale; brother, Johnny Wayne Wideman and wife, Lin of Tennessee; grandchildren, Ashton Griffin and wife, Ayshunti of Mesquite, Stephanie Wideman of Lindale, Jacob Wideman and wife, Gabrielle of Lindale; great-grandchildren, Michael, Mason, Adonijah, Alijah, Landry; one great-grandchild on the way, Amayah, due October 5, 2021; "adopted kids", Jeffrey "Shaggy" Vickers, Jennifer Vickers Stevens, Johnathan "JP" Vickers, and Jessica Vickers Ventresca; and many other relatives and a host of life-long friends.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at the Pavilion of Colfax Cemetery, with Bro. James Griffin officiating.
