Sandra Kay Brown passed into the arms of God peacefully on Saturday, April 1st 2017 at the age of 76. Sandy was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She faithfully served the Lord in both word and deed. She was truly loved and admired by everyone who knew her and affectionately called “Nona” by her family and friends.

Sandy Brown was born on the 8th day of November in 1940 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was a 1959 graduate of Redlands Senior High in California. After graduation, she moved to Texas and met the love of her life, Cecil Brown. The two married on July 2, 1961 and began to build a wonderful legacy of love. They had three children. She lovingly provided childcare in her home for more than 30 years, served as a Sunday School teacher, nursery volunteer, choir member, and president of the Women's Ministry for many years. She truly was the epitome of a selfless servant. Sandy’s determination and persistence never wavered as her battle with cancer began. She stood firm in faith and fought back with everything she had. Her strength and courage was an inspiration to all who came in contact with her over the last two years.

Sandy was survived by her husband of 55 years, Cecil Brown, her step-mother, Maxine Gordon, three children and their spouse, Lisa & Bobby Sanders, Doug & Gloria Brown and Denny & Amanda Brown; five brothers, Rick Gordon, Craig Gordon, Mark Gordon, Gary Short and Mike Short; grandchildren, Erika, Collin, Katelin, Holly, Cody, Tori, Travis, Jarrod, Jordan, Clay, Dusti, and Kelli; 12 great-grandchildren and two on the way.

She was proceeded in death by her father, Paul Gordon; mother, Maxine Short; granddaughter Elizabeth Brown; and infant sister, Diane Gordon.

Visitation will be held at Hilliard Funeral Home on Tuesday evening, April 4th from 6:00- 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at First Assembly of God Church, 1919 N. Wood St. in Gilmer, Texas at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 5, 2017. Her body will be laid to rest among family members at Union Chapel Cemetery, Van, Texas.
